Louisiana!

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindall has signed HB 715, “Directs the Department of Public Safety and Corrections not to implement the federal REAL ID Act of 2005.” The new law also requires that the department “report to the governor any attempt by agencies or agents of the United States Department of Homeland Security to secure the implementation of the REAL ID Act through the operations of that division and department.”

I applaud Louisiana.

And I would like to award them and the 20 other states that have passed Anti-REAL ID legislation with The Golden Birdie Award for giving their own one-fingered salutes to the Federal Government.

BUT to the States among them that only passed non-binding resolutions, I would also like to admonish them (not that they’ll listen to me) to pass legally binding legislation against REAL ID and stop beating around the bush. Take a stand, or don’t.

But regardless, I salute their efforts. They’ve earned it.

So there’s this girl. She’s engaged to a man from another country. In order for him to be allowed into this country, the government wants the girl to turn over all personal emails, letters, and phone records so they can determine whether or not they are actually in a relationship. After turning all of this in, the girl gets a letter from the government saying they are “not convinced” of their relationship.

This is a true story. If it had happened to me, my response would have been:

Americans die in Iraq from ‘electrocution,’ shocks reported by troops ‘almost daily’

Among the seemingly innumerable scandal-worthy stories which have so marked the war in Iraq is one growing tragedy which has been largely ignored: shoddy electrical work by U.S. contractors at military bases leading to numerous electrical fires, troops receiving painful shocks, and even death by electrocution.

Can the government do anything right? My search continues.

The agency that regulates Mississippi’s casinos got pillows, stoves, dinnerware and other items meant for Hurricane Katrina victims, according to state records obtained by CNN.

The government….sent Katrina relief supplies…to another government agency…that regulates casinos?
Why are they still sending relief supplies to people 3 years after the hurricane hit? And if for some reason they feel like they still have to, why can’t they at least do it right?

I ask this question again, can the government do anything right? I challenge anyone to give me an example of a successful government venture.

You know what I was thinking the other day? I was thinking we’re about due for a good old fashioned bank run. And what do I see when I turn on the TV but a bank run on IndyMac! Hurray! The economy is tanking!

The icing on the cake for me was when the head bureaucrat for the FDIC said on Fox news not 10 minutes ago that no one should worry. IndyMac is the safest place in the world for your money right now because it’s already failed and the Federal government is in control. Wow I feel safe.

Actually I feel like running on my bank right now to beat the crowds.

Of course all of this is the result of the death-spiralling dollar. The Government has been spending our money faster than they can print it and the result is inflation.

Now, the government says that the rate of inflation is 2-3%. BUt they don’t include the food, energy, and housing markets in their figures even though those are the things that people buy the most.

Experts put the rate of inflation somewhere up around 10%. What does that mean? That means that if you have $100 in the bank, in one years time it will only be worth $90. It means if you don’t have a savings account with atleast 10% interest rates, you are loosing your savings. It means if you don’t get a 10% raise from your job every year, your standard of living is going down!

It’s all because the dollar is actually a worthless piece of paper. It’s fiat currency, and every time they print a dollar, every dollar already in existence goes down in value.

…That’s the end of my post. There’s no good news.

Well it looks like the terrorist watch list has topped 1 Million names this month. That’s 1 million people who are not allowed to fly. Just to prove just how easy it is to get on the list for no reason, the list includes names like Senator Kennedy, Nelson Mandela, Congressman Don Young, etc.

Another problem with the no fly list is the inclusion of common names without any other identifying information, causing multiple people with the same name to be interrogated and harassed for hours on end. Some of these names are Robert Johnson, John Williams, John Anderson, and so on.

In fact I found out that my own father’s name is on the list. He has a very common name. The last time he flew he had no problem so it must have been a recent addition. I shudder to think what will happen to him the next time he tries to fly.

This the perfect example of the famous saying, if you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. If you give the government broad and overreaching anti-terroism powers, everyone becomes a terrorist to them, even their own people.

In fact, even anti-gun people should be very afraid of the precident that this ruling sets. The supreme court ruled (by the narrowest of margins) that owning a gun is an individual right…BUT Justice Scalia ruled that the government has the right to regulate which guns you can own, how you are to store them, where you can carry them, who can own them (via background checks), etc.

According to this ruling, even the most anti-gun states like California and Illinois are not violating the constitution.

Can you imagine if they had ruled this way on any other right? “Yes the first amendment lays out an individual right to free speech, freedom of the press, and religious freedom, but we maintain the right to regulate those rights.”

How long before we have people advocating for ‘common sense speech laws’?

This ruling will only confuse people further on the nature of our rights. Our rights pre-exist government. They are not granted by government because people existed before it. Our rights are natural or God-given. The constitution does not grant us our rights it protects them from the government. The constitution is not a document handed down from the government to the poeple stating “These are the rights that we see fit to give you.” It is a document writen by the people to the government saying “These are the privileges that you will have an no more. And whatever you do with those privileges, they can never violate these enumerated rights.”

The govenment has no legitimate power to regulate the types of guns we own or the way we store them, or where we carry them. Not only does the constitution not lay out that power for them, it specifically prohibits them from doing it in the second amendment.

That’s why it is nonsense for the Supreme Court to rule that “‘The right to own guns can’t be meddled with at all’ means we can meddle with your right to own guns as we see fit as long as you are still able to own a gun.”

And thus the Supreme Court throws us a small insignificant bone to keep us from revolting as they eviscerate our rights in front of our eyes. It’s really quite brilliant. In the months leading up to the ruling, many conservatives were on the verge of deciding to give up on the government and work towards true liberty, pending this decision. They wanted to see if the system was still worth saving or not. And now because of this ruling they are shouting “See? The federal government can be saved as long as we elect the right leaders!”

They don’t understand that this is the ruling that they were dreading. The only solution is dissolution. It’s time to begin throwing off the federal government (nonviolently of course). Peaceful secession is the only way to begin restoring liberty for ourselves.

I’ll leave you with a quote:

The Netherlands, with its permissive marijuana laws, may be known as the cannabis capital of the world. But a survey published this month in PLoS Medicine, a journal of the Public Library of Science, suggests that the Dutch don’t actually experiment with pot as much as one would expect. Despite tougher drug policies in this country, Americans were twice as likely to have tried marijuana than the Dutch, according to the survey. In fact, Americans were more likely to have tried marijuana or cocaine than people in any of the 16 other countries, including France, Spain, South Africa, Mexico and Colombia, that the survey covered.

Taiwan Declares Peace on China

For my first entry, I offer this story.  Tawain and China are patching things up.  The cause?  Well it seems to be capitalism.  China knows war isn’t good for business, Tawain knows there are lots of Chinese eager to buy things.  Fun huh?  And they figured this out without the US “liberating” anyone.
