Revoking My Republican Party Membership

I don’t want to sound like I’m a big Republican supporter or anything. I haven’t considered myself a Republican for a few years now. I was keeping my membership just so that I could vote for Ron Paul as a Republican to “send a message” to the Republicans in power. Now I see that even this is a lost cause. They don’t care about us. They are just as bad or even worse than the Democrats. This whole time I’ve been thinking that our best chance is to convince the Republicans that they are wrong by showing them that we want someone like Ron Paul in office. I was foolish. They will never change. The final proof of that came to me today in the form of a House Bill to ban “assault weapons”; introduced and sponsored by Republicans. The Bill is called H.R. 6257: The Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2008. This Bill is effectivley the exact same gun ban bill that Clinton came up with during his term only this time it’s being pushed by Republicans. I thought the parties were supposed to be opposites, to keep eachother in check.

They are the same.

Normally I would ask you to write your Representatives about H.R. 6257 and give you links where you could do it…but why? What’s the point?

They don’t care about you.

This is evident even in the wording of this very bill…

Paragraph (1) shall not apply to–

‘(A) the manufacture for, transfer to, or possession by the United States or a department or agency of the United States (including the United States Armed Forces and, under regulations pursuant to title 50, United States Code, the National Guard and Reserve), or a State or a department, agency, or political subdivision of a State, or a transfer to or possession by a law enforcement officer employed by such an entity for purposes of law enforcement (whether on or off duty);

‘(C) the possession, by an individual who is retired from service with a law enforcement agency and is not otherwise prohibited from receiving a firearm, of a semiautomatic assault weapon transferred to the individual by the agency upon such retirement

What does this mean? Government employees (even retired ones) can own whatever guns they want, but YOU can’t. You are of a lower class.

Oh I’m still going to fight this. But I’m officially going to revoke my Republican party membership like I’ve been meaning to for the past 2 years.

I’m one step closer to withdrawing entirely from politics and just living the way I want to regardless of what some piece of paper in Washington says about it.

Here’s the text of the Bill with the names of the sponsors if you feel like doing anything about it.
